HJ Printed armband good or bad?

Hi all...

What do you think of this printed armband??
I am a bit surprised that it is sewn together with an overlock stitch..

You don't see many of these around but we have period proof that they existed in 1933 and that they were eventually prohibited in 1936. Here is one that I still have:

What is noticeable about the one you show is, as you say, the stitching but also that it looks brand-new. That would be a worry for me. The swastika on mine is barely visible on the inside of the armband but of course that would depend on the pressure being used to apply the ink.

I've read the article about them.. - It's a great piece of work..

Another thing about the armband is that the thread on the edge lights up under uv light, but the armband itself doesn't light up..

Yes, that's odd. To be honest I don't even know whether mine is authentic. I have always considered it to be a good one but I can't prove it. We have exact measurements, the exact colours and the thread used to make the armband etc in the 1934 manufacturing instruction but I certainly don't have the experience with these to make a call one way or the other. If it's difficult to say if a particular example is fake then it's almost equally difficult to say whether it is genuine in my opinion. Let's see if any other members have more experience with them.

Yes, it is definitely a difficult subject with these armbands.. 🧐
My armband measures 9cm. in width, and 19 cm. in length..

Just measured the width of mine and it's 109mm.

This evening I did a small test of a loose edge thread, where you burn the thread to see if it glows (cotton, etc.) or melts (polyester).. - and the thread unfortunately melted....
So in my opinion it is decided that the armband is not from before 45, or at least the thread..

I know the uv-test cannot always determine whether fabric is from before 45, or after..
But it also seems to be bad during this test..


So unfortunately it is not good!! :frusty:

Ah okay, thanks for letting us know (y)

I did the burn test on mine and the thread is definitely cotton. The armband certainly feels and smells old and as I say, I think it's a good one but it would be nice to see more of these printed armbands.
