Hello
Having loved tinnies, Ive always wondered how the boy or girl got these badges on the day or even days after?
Were there stalls selling these? Or given out for attending? Obviously there are many different scenarios for different days, just what info does anyone have on this.
Thank you for anymore insight

Josh

I think a lot of the event tinnies were sold in advance as a means of raising funds to cover some of the costs.

All I know about the Potsdam badge the badges were given to all participants (in silver) and additionally the audience could purchase the same badge ( in bronce) . I also know that often badges were given to the participants of a tent camp on the entrance after their registration. Each boy and each girl was given a "camp card " to make it easy for the camp guards to identify whome to let in and out. Even the numer of the row and the number of the tent were noticed on such a camp card. Have attached one that I´ve recently sold.

As Crack mentioned further up the page, many tinnies were used as fundraisers and the Potsdam badge was no exception. We know more about the bronze badges than the silver version (in terms of who got them, how and when). Here's a good read on the event and the history of the badge including an exploration into the silver version and its later elevation to honour badge status:
