I've added this to the shooting badge article but I was just reading a period source that shows that in most cases, this badge could usually only be awarded to HJ leaders who had served with the Wehrmacht. In HJ-Gebiet Mittelland in 1943 for example there were only forty HJ members who held the badge. If we extrapolate that for all HJ-Gebiete in 1943 we get a theoretical number of 1800 badges awarded. By December 1944 the number of badge serial numbers awarded had risen to at least 2772 but it is unknown whether physical badges were being awarded at that point.
