Hello guys,
I was looking through my buckles the other day for another member to ID an unmarked HJ and came across something I dont recall noticing before.
I was looking for buckles that have an interesting detail on the side fold near the ear. On most nickel HJ the side fold has a gradual radius all the way to the ear. The buckle I was searching for had a hard angle instead of the radius (see 1st photo). Out of 77 nickel HJ in my collection only 4 buckles had this detail. 2 by Geisse & Scmidt , 1 by Paulmann & Crone and 1 by Paul Meybauer. The 2 buckles by Geisse & Scmidt matched up perfectly to the buckle I was trying to Identify, so that was case closed; the other members buckle was an unmarked by Geisse & Scmidt. The fun part happened after this. I was looking closely at the PuC and Paul Meybauer and realized that they are identical. Every part, the eagle design, the strange side fold detail, the ears, the pin head, the shroud and prongs.. all of it! To add to this, the PuC buckle is double maker marked with Assmann (but the Assmann has been ground off partially. So the real question is; who the hell made these buckles ? Was it Assmann, PuC or Meybauer? Would love comments and feedback, Thanks
