Standard bearer ranks

Hi there,

Yes, that is possible. Here's some more info:

See also post 5 in that thread regarding minimum ranks including females.

I should have asked this before answering but are you asking about the Bann / Jungbann standard bearers or the Gefolgschaft / Fähnlein standard bearers? There is a difference in the permissible ranks.

Okay, for that level there appears to have been some confusion at the time. A 1938 Gebietsbehl from Gebiet Mittelelbe picks up on this and standardises the requirements for the Gefolgschaft and Fähnlein standard bearers as follows:

Gefolgschaft standard bearer:

Minimum rank: Kameradschaftsführer

Minimum height: 1.70m

Minimum age: 17

Fähnlein standard bearer:

Minimum rank: Jungzugführer

Minimum height: 1.60m

Minimum age: 15

A later Gebietsbefehl issued by Gebiet Pommern in 1943 gives the minimum ranks as Scharführer and Jungzugführer respectively. Surprisingly, the RJF seems not to have published guidance on this centrally.

No maximum rank is given in the 1938 source but for a flag at this level I would not think that the Gefolgschaftsführer / Fähnleinführer himself would have carried the flag.
