Can anybody identify this unit?

Small test of knowledge.

Hi Wilhelm,

I believe it is a made up tally from the movie "Jakko". I have the DVD and have watched it a number of times, but I do not think this tally existed actually.

Well, I certainly do not know for sure. Be nice if it was a real unit though. John

Horst Wessel

And what about this one? I purchased it from Bernd Wedeking a long time ago and he told me the story about it. Do you know?

Without his book, all this information will eventually be lost.

He told me that it was from a propaganda movie aboard that ship and it was either MHJ boys or actual KM sailors that wore it in that film.

I had asked Dani about the Jakko tally and he told me, also many years ago, that it was a film tally but does he actually know every single MHJ unit that existed? I doubt if he would say that he did, but it was his opinion that it was a film prop. I never discussed it with Bernd, but I will send him an email about it now. John

Maybe it indeed is a movie-prop. Maybe Bernd can give a solution.

A Süderau exists at Schleswig-Holstein (near Glückstadt near the Elbe-river)
and as such it is listed in the table of contents for German cities and in the postal
zipcode-book.
It so can be written as Suederau and as such it is often used with vessels.

From Bernd Wedeking:

The existence of the MHJ tally was known to me from the photo. The unit has never existed. It is also known that then as now ribbons for the props were made according to the respective contemporary originals. So I know from a propaganda film the cap tally "Torpedoboot Panther", and from more recent time the tape of the TITANIC.

Dani is at sea right now but I sent him this link and Bernd's response. John

Just saw a photo from the movie Jakko (a Tobis-film), where Artur Axmann is
visiting the naval HJ guys during the filming. I understand the lads are really
from the HJ.
The description for the photo in German: Reichsjugendführer Artur Axmann im
Kreise von Hitlerjugend, bei den Aufnahmen zu dem Film "Jakko". If one would
see the photo and know the fact, one would think it all is real.

While not part of the Jakko movie, your post reminded me of these original photos from my collection

And in none of these and the other photos from this event is there a flag. John

I do have a photo where Marine-HJ is marching through the Streets of Mönchen-Gladbach
with a flag. The pity is, one cannot see the used patch. The photo is dated May 25, 1937.

Found it: we should blame the photographer when taken the photograph or when developed
the photo. Will look for the negatives (as they were taken in an archive). If the negative
shows the same I will not further show it.

Did also find the photo with Axmann and another one with the tally Suederau.
