Steve, can you post a close-up of the knife this guy is wearing? It looks to me like one of the very early un-official knives with the birds-head pommel. If it is, this might be one of the first, if not the first pic, of one of these in wear.

the second of what i can make out of it: Despite rain and the bible
3rd i can't read properly.
And the last one reads: Only the Germand Hand(fist)

It's some sort of rhyme or poeme.
