Ewan, this is actually a typical Deschler way of attaching a needle to a small badge around the early 30`s :) and can be found on many small Deschler made badges.
Here are two from around 1930-1935

There would be a few other things to consider as well when saying this, if you were directly comparing Deschler made badges around this time, as Deschler used many different markings as well as attachments at the same time.
• Were they actually made by Deschler? or was it contracted out to a sub-contractor or another maker?
• Was it made in their Ansbach firm maybe?
But to see it soldered directly onto the planchet, is actually quite common for them from this era.
