This is one of those items where a call to the company would give clarity. I remember doing the same with a "HJ" drum years back. A company rep provided proof that the item was actually made in the 1960s. The Gies company was founded in 1899 and is still around today so these torches may well be legit from the period but as I say, a call would clear it up straight away I would think - especially as these torches appear to be on offer from multiple sources.

When I was a child, I think I was 7 years old, I was with my best friend at his grandpa's house. We found such a torch there and lit it. Of course we didn't know what it was exactly, we had never seen it before. Looking back, I'm annoyed about it...:frusty:

Hello,

This wax torch was developed by Hans Dietel under the name "Fackel aus mit Wachs getränkter Zellstoffwatte" "Torch made of wax-soaked cellulose wadding" and filed as a utility model on October 31, 1934.

Best regards, Pele

Hello,

I forgot the following
The Company Wachsindustrie Fulda Adam Gies filed another utility model on January 16, 1935.
A wooden stick is no longer used as a carrier, but rather a cardboard tube.

Best regards, Pele

I emailed the company and even tried to call but never heard back. I passed on the torches as many told me they would of been very easy to replicate post war
